Everton’s Nicoline Sorensen announced her retirement at the end 2023.
She played in the Women’s World Cup this summer, but now has other goals.
In July, the 26-year old signed a one-year contract with Toffees. However, it was terminated early.
The woman posted a message on Facebook: “I have always promised myself to enjoy playing as long as possible. That time is now over.”
“I played the game with my friends in school and fell in love instantly. Since then, I have never stopped.
No feeling can ever beat the satisfaction of achieving something that you have worked hard for.
As we progress through our lives, the motivations and perspectives of people change.
It’s the best decision I could have made. “It’s a shock to many that I am only 26, and leaving the game is not something you do every day.
Sorensen played in 38 matches for her country, scored eight goals and was present in four matches that took place in Australia and New Zealand between July and August.
In 2020, she signed with Everton after leaving Brondby and played in 22 matches for her team in the Women’s Super League in her first season.
The Dane also started the 2-2 draw that took place between Merseysiders FC and Bristol City on Sunday. This result leaves the Merseysiders in 10th position of the WSL.
Before her departure, she will play matches against West Ham United, Liverpool and Man City.
