Bayern believes Kalvin could fill the Phil Gap in midfield

Bayern Munich have their sights set on a surprise January transfer for Kalvin Phillips to improve the midfield.

The Sun claims that the 27-year-old England international is now on Thomas Tuchel’s radar, after his chances of playing regular football for Manchester City were further harmed.

Phillips hoped Rodri’s suspension would allow him to take a place at City’s base midfield. But Pep Guardiola benched Phillips in their two last league matches.

A move to the Bundesliga would be a good option for all involved, especially since an inevitable exit seems likely.

Tuchel’s desire to sign another midfielder was made clear during the summer, but the deal for Joao Palahinha collapsed in the last minutes of the window.

According to reports, he was also interested in Mason Mount and Scott McTominay of Manchester United.

The Bundesliga champions will likely be busy in January after selling Ryan Gravenberch.

Phillips will need to play more first team football in order to be considered for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

Joining Harry Kane, his captain at the international level in Germany is a possible solution.
