Tranmere picked up their first away point this season, a 1-1 tie at Sutton. They were just moments away from winning all three.
Matt Gray’s team denied Rovers victory with an own-goal by Ben Goodliffe in the first half.
Luke McGee and Dean Bouzanis were both called into action early at Gander Lane. Luke McGee saved a shot by Kristian Dennis that was low, while Dean Bouzanis snuffed out Harry Beautyman’s head.
Goodliffe diverted Rob Apter’s cross into his own goal, giving Tranmere the lead. They had already lost their first eight games away in League Two.
Aiden O’Brien, who was trying to equalize for Sutton at that time, headed wide. Five minutes before half-time McGee dived at Coley’s feet just outside of the penalty box and O’Brien’s attempt at the empty goal hit the bottom of the post.
Tranmere then had their turn, as Dennis’ shot clipped around the outer post.
In the second period, there were very few opportunities. The dangerous Apter was the closest to scoring with a shot from 25 yards that went just wide.
Harry Smith’s powerful header was blocked by John and he hammered the rebound in with just two minutes left.
