Accrington Stanley defeated Wrexham 2-0 in front of a packed Wham Stadium. Tommy Leigh scored both goals, ending Wrexham’s unbeaten League Two streak.
Stanley has moved up to seventh place, displacing the Red Dragons from automatic promotion.
Wrexham had a good start and Elliot Lee, the top scorer of Wrexham’s team, saw his head superbly deflected by Jon McCracken. This was in the 14th-minute.
Paul Mullin, who was in a clean-through, had a chance to score again for the Red Dragons when Stanley appealed against his offside. However, the striker’s effort crashed off the bar.
Accrington scored from the spot on the five minute mark after the half. Will Boyle, Wrexham’s substitute in the second half was found to have pushed Brad Hills after a corner. Leigh’s fifth season goal sent Arthur Okonkwo into a frenzy.
In the 73rd, Stanley scored two goals when Okonkwo mishandled Jack Nolan’s long-range shot. Korede Adedoyin then pounced on the loose ball and Longelo fired into an empty net.
In the 98th, Wrexham had the opportunity to get one back after Hills fouled George Evans. However, Mullin’s spot-kick hit the bottom of the crossbar before bouncing out.
