Newport 0-0 MK Dons – Cutting edge missing in the stalemate

Newport City and MK Dons fought to a scoreless draw at Rodney Parade after both teams missed numerous chances.

County’s Omar Bogle missed several chances, and the Dons Max Dean was the only player to come close in the opening half. Max Dean made Nick Townsend make a stunning save at the end of the half.

Five minutes after half-time, Townsend’s counterpart Craig MacGillivray gave Will Evans a chance to score a goal. However, Evans missed the opportunity.

Evans hit the crossbar from an awkward angle with 16 minutes remaining. A minute later Townsend, the host’s hero, denied Dons captain Alex Gilbey at close quarters.

Newport’s Matt Baker saved the side late in the game when he blocked Conor Grant’s second goalbound attempt. Townsend then again rescued his team as he stopped Joe Tomlinson’s effort at the 2nd try.

Mo Eisa, the Dons’ substitute who came off the bench a minute later, nearly scored a goal but was unable to reach Gilbey’s dangerous cross-goal ball. The match ended goalless.
