Newcastle to move in January for PSG’s Hugo Ekitike

  • Newcastle was beaten by PSG to secure Ekitike’s services in 2022, despite a more expensive bid.
  • The 21-year old striker who has only played eight minutes in this season is now free to leave PSG
  • Newcastle’s midfield and defence are also of concern

Newcastle United has re-initiated their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike, and is exploring the possibility of a loan deal for this 21-year-old striker. This according to 90min.

PSG signed Ekitike on a loan agreement with the obligation to buy him permanently this year. The Magpies had bid EUR40m to Stade Reims for Ekitike in summer 2022.

Ekitike’s game time has been limited since then. Last year, he started twelve times for Ligue 1, but this season he has only eight minutes. He was told in the summer that if wished to leave his club – a decision backed up by the facts – ekitike is entitled to do so.

PSG tried to use Ekitike in their attempt to sign Randal Kolo Muani, but the Eintracht Frankfurt striker refused to go and made it clear that he would remain and fight to secure his future.

90min has learned that there are many Premier League clubs interested in Ekitike’s services.

Newcastle is one of the interested parties. They have recently lost Callum Wilson due to an injury, and they are looking to improve their offensive options by signing Ekitike.

Crystal Palace who have failed to convince Ekitike this summer to leave PSG remain interested, and longtime admirers West Ham United keep a keen eye on the matter.

Ekitike is also attracting interest from the Bundesliga and Serie A, but it is believed that a move to Premier League would appeal to him. The 21-year old is aware of the longstanding interest shown in his services by England.

Ekitike is expected to be loaned out and Newcastle has already begun exploring the possibility of a short-term deal with the striker in preparation for a potentially busy transfer window.

Newcastle are keen on signing a centre-back, and they have shown interest in Lille’s Tiago djalo as well as Everton’s Ben Godfrey.
