- David Raya has replaced Ramsdale as the starting goalkeeper at Arsenal
- Chelsea is among those clubs that are monitoring Ramsdale’s situation.
- Arteta, the England International, has asked for patience
Mikel Arteta urged Aaron Ramsdale not to entertain any thoughts of leaving Arsenal in January.
Ramsdale has been dropped for David Raya in the Premier League this year. The England International is only able to make two appearances in the cup since September.
Chelsea is one of the teams that are keeping tabs on Ramsdale at Arsenal. Ramsdale, 25, initially ignored the Chelsea interest, preferring to fight for his future in Arsenal. While that position hasn’t changed yet, Ramsdale might be required to reconsider his options in the lead-up to Euro 2024 in next summer.
Gareth Southgate admitted earlier on Friday that he couldn’t guarantee Ramsdale would be included in the squad next summer if he remained on the margins.
Southgate stated, “There’s a realist in me, and I won’t promise anything that I can’t deliver.”
Arteta, in response to Southgate’s concerns, warned Ramsdale to not rush out of Arsenal before January and encouraged the goalkeeper to continue fighting.Ramsdale sold his seat to Raya / Robbie Jay Barratt AMA/GettyImages
He said, “First and foremost my door is always open for any discussion about any player.” We want to give our players the best and try to achieve that. But we also know that sometimes we have an influence on them, either positively or negatively.
We will do everything we can to assist them. However, this is a sport where 24 players are required to play a specific role. The role you play in August might not be the same as the one in March.
Making early decisions is, from my perspective, not a good thing. The team also has specific needs to meet. You cannot achieve this with just six, ten, or fourteen players. This is not possible. You need to have everyone on board and Aaron plays a very important part in the team.
I have no message for clubs who are interested in Ramsdale. “I can speak a bit about Aaron, and how I love Aaron, but I cannot talk much more than that.”
