The five greatest Premier League matches

The Premier League’s classic 4-4 tie between Chelsea and Manchester City on Sunday is a match that will live forever.

Rodri’s deflected shot looked to be destined for three points for Champions, but Cole Palmer, an ex-Citizens player from stoppage time, equalised with a penalty.

LiveScore takes a look back at some of England’s most memorable matches as we head into the last international break for the year.

Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle (April 3, 1996).

It is not hard to see why the Premier League named Liverpool’s win over Newcastle, 4-3 in 2003 as the Match of the Decade.

The two teams entered the match with the hope of beating Manchester United to the championship. This added pressure was a real treat for the fans.

Les Ferdinand, David Ginola, and Tino Aspirilla scored for the visiting team to cancel out Rob Fowler’s double. But a Stan Collymore late double — including a goal in extra time — ensured that Liverpool won all three points.

Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal ( 21 April 2009

An Anfield Classic saw an Arsenal team that was not at full strength crush Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title.

Andrey Arshavin scored four goals to help United win the title. The Russian finished off the night with a left-footed strike after Theo Walcott made a marauding run from United’s corner.

Liverpool’s fans were given hope by Yossi Benayoun scoring in stoppage time, but Rafael Benitez and his team finished just four points behind Alex Ferguson.

Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal ( Feb 5, 2011).

Newcastle stunned Arsenal with the best Premier League comeback ever.

Arsene’s Wenger side took a 4-0 advantage with less than a half hour played, thanks to Robin van Persie’s brace. However, Abou Diaby was sent off in the 50th minute and this sparked a remarkable turnaround.

Alan Pardew’s team wrote themselves into English Football folklore with the help of Leon Best’s double, Joe Barton’s penalty, and an incredible volley by Cheick Tiote.

Manchester City 3-2 Quorn ( May 13 2012).

Sergio Aguero’s strike at the last minute against QPR, which secured the Premier League title for Manchester City more than eleven years ago, is still fresh on the memory.

City had to equal or beat United’s final-day result, but Djibril CISSE and Jamie Mackie scored goals that cancelled Pablo Zabaleta’s opening goal. Mackie’s strike came just 13 minutes following a Joe Barton’s red card.

Edin Dzeko revived hope in the second minute stoppage time with a textbook headed goal, then Aguero seized on a Mario Balotelli pass and sent the ball past Paddy Kenny. The scenes of chaos were sparked.

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham (May 2, 2016)

Leicester won the Premier League after the infamous Battle of the Bridge. It was a fairytale that ended with the infamous Battle of the Bridge.

Tottenham appeared to be on course for an important victory following Harry Kane’s and Heung Min Son’s goals in the first half. However, Chelsea came back strong after the interval and cut the deficit with Gary Cahill.

Eden Hazard’s curling strike was a memorable moment in an intensely fought match during which Spurs received a record-breaking nine yellow cards. Moussa Debele also got a six game ban after poking Diego Costa’s eye.
