Phil Taylor, 16-time World Champion to Retire at End of 2024

Phil Taylor will retire next year from darts competitions after winning a record-breaking 16 World Championships.

Taylor stepped down from his sport in 2018, after reaching the World Championship Final, but he returned to it in 2022.

He is considered the best darts player in history. He has played on the Senior Darts Tour for the last two seasons and will retire after the season of 2024.

Taylor stated, “I’ve enjoyed every moment of this incredible journey for the last 35 years.”

“I will always perform to my best ability. But time is a cruel mistress and now I feel it’s the right moment to leave the Tour. “

He said: “I will work as hard as ever to give my fans exactly what they desire and to go out as a winner. “

Taylor (nicknamed “The Power”) dominated the darts world for over two decades following his 1990 World Championship.

From 1995 to 2002, he won eight consecutive events and made 14 finals in a straight line.

Taylor was the world’s number one sports personality for 13 consecutive years and won 85 titles. He was also nominated twice for BBC Sports Personality of the year.

In 2022 and in 2023, he reached the quarterfinals of the Senior Darts Tour. This tour consists 11 different events.

2024’s season will end on the 17th November, at Newbury’s Crucible Club.

Billy Lovell, World Senior Darts Tour said: “Phil was one of the most talented sportsmen the UK ever produced. We would like to record our gratitude that he chose to come out from retirement to begin with our project.

We have enjoyed having him with us and are sure that his last year of touring will be a lot of fun. “
