Lionel Messi selects his favorite goal from his career

  • Messi’s favourite goal is a strike against Real Madrid
  • El Clasico’s top scorer is a forward
  • This week, he won his eighth Ballon d’Or.

Lionel Messi’s solo goal in a UEFA Champions League semifinal win against Real Madrid, in 2011, is his favorite career goal.

He won the eight Ballon d’Or for his outstanding performances in Qatar on Argentina’s way to a World Cup victory, cementing his status as the greatest footballer ever.

After winning the Ballon d’Or, Messi was asked to select his favorite goal from his impressive career.

Messi chose his own goal, which was similar to Diego Maradona’s against Getafe. He could also have selected his powerful run in Real Zaragoza or the stunning header he scored against Real Madrid during the 2009 Champions League Final.

He said, “I always tell people that the most important goal is to score special goals.”

I don’t remember. It’s the goal I remember most and not because of the score or what it means, but the fact that we won the Champions League Semi-Final at Bernabeu by 2-0.

Messi played a one-two before slipping past Iker casillas and five Real Madrid players.

Messi scored the winning goal in the UEFA Champions League Final for Barcelona, a match he also played in with Pep Guardiola’s 2010/11 team – a side widely regarded as one of the greatest in the history of football.

He finished his European career with four Champions League medals and 129 Champions League goal.
