Grimsby, struggling in League Two, drew 2-2 with Forest Green after coming back from two goals behind.
Donovan Wilson’s brace in the second half cancelled out Kyle McAllister’s double from the first.
McAllister nearly opened the score with a long-range curling effort which cannoned off the crossbar.
The impressive midfielder, however, was unable to avoid the spot-kick in the 37th after Callum Jones had been adjudged to have been fouled in the area.
McAllister added to Forest Green’s advantage just before halftime when he lofted the ball above Grimsby’s defenders.
Grimsby cut the deficit in half when Wilson deflected Gavan Holohan’s shot into the goal after a corner.
Wilson took advantage of Reece Welch’s lackluster touch to slide past James Belshaw, the Forest Green goalkeeper.
Rovers were close to winning late in the game, but Tyrese Omotoye’s header bounced off of Cartwright’s crossbar. Later Sean Robertson’s effort at stoppage time flew past Cartwright’s bar.
