- Lionel Messi won 2023 Ballon d’Or
- Erling Haaland came in second, and Kylian Mbappe third.
- The public has been provided with the full list of ballots.
France Football has released the full list of ballots for 2023’s Ballon d’Or.
Lionel Messi won this year’s award at a Paris ceremony on Monday evening, making him the first ever player to win the Ballon d’Or eight times.
Erling Haaland was a formidable opponent, scoring 52 goals to help Manchester City win the triple last year.
The Ballon d’Or is voted on from 100 journalists of the top 100 FIFA ranked countries. The journalists choose five players. First place receives six points. Second gets four. Third takes three. Fourth gains two. Fifth earns one.

The full voting results have been revealed, and Messi won by an impressive 105 points over Haaland, totaling 462. Messi’s biggest margin of success since the Ballon d’Or was returned to France Football’s exclusive jurisdiction in 2016, after separating with UEFA. He won in 2019, by just seven points, and in 2021 he recorded 33 points in front of Robert Lewandowski.
It was not a clear-cut victory, especially when you compare it to Karim’s 549 point win in 2022. Sadio finished second with just 193.
Haaland was voted first by 20 journalists. Messi won 65 votes. Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and other players received the six-point total.
Only five of the thirty finalists failed to receive any votes – Jamal Musiala (Nicolo Barella), Randal Kolo Munani, Martin Odegaard, and Ruben Dios.
